WASHINGTON – Today, Senator Ruben Gallego’s (D-AZ) Cross-Boundary Wildfire Solutions Act was unanimously approved by the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee. The bill, which provides recommendations for improving the effectiveness and efficiency of wildfire mitigation across land ownership boundaries, now advances to the full U.S. Senate for consideration.
The Committee’s approval of the legislation comes after a hearing earlier this month where witnesses expressed their support for the bill.
“Wildfires don’t care about land ownership boundaries, but currently, our wildfire mitigation policies do. In states like Arizona, that kind of red tape is dangerous,” said Senator Gallego. “My bill would improve coordination between federal agencies and their state, Tribal, and local counterparts to better manage fires and keep communities safe. Now that it’s passed committee, I look forward to bringing it to the Senate floor.”
