WASHINGTON – Senator Ruben Gallego (D-AZ) and Democratic members of the Homeland Security and Governmental Security Committee have sent a follow-up letter to United States Attorney General, Pam Bondi, demanding compliance with their request for the Department of Justice (DOJ) to release documents related to the Jeffrey Epstein case.
This latest letter follows a July request from the Democratic senators, who formally invoked 5 USC § 2954. This authority requires any federal agency to provide documents or information requested by any five members of the Committee. To date, the Committee has received no requested documents from the Attorney General’s office.
“On July 29, we wrote to you directing you to produce to this Committee ‘the full and complete Epstein files’ as identified by the Department of Justice and Federal Bureau of Investigation,” wrote the senators. “You have failed to comply and to date, the Committee has received no documents from your office.”
As the deadline passed for the Department’s initial response, the Committee received a letter from the Justice Department stating, “the Department is continuing to evaluate whether it may appropriately provide documents.” The renewed demand follows public reports and statements from Attorney General Bondi about her possession of the Epstein client list, as well as President Trump’s campaign promises to declassify the Epstein files. The Committee is specifically requesting all documents, files, evidence, or other materials in DOJ or FBI custody related to United States of America v. Jeffrey Epstein.
The Committee is now demanding that DOJ provide the requested documents and arrange a staff briefing no later than September 2, 2025.

Senator Gallego has twice introduced a resolution calling on the Department of Justice to release its files related to the investigation of Jeffrey Epstein to restore public trust, affirm institutional accountability, and prevent the politicization of justice. Republican Markwayne Mullin (R-OK) objected and blocked the resolution’s passage through unanimous consent both times. Last week, Senators Gallego and Richard Blumenthal (D-CT) wrote to U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi condemning the decision to transfer Epstein’s accomplice, convicted sex trafficker Ghislaine Maxwell, from FCI Tallahassee, a low-security federal prison, to FPC Bryan, a minimum-security prison camp in Texas. The senators raised concerns about whether Maxwell is receiving preferential treatment.
