On National Fentanyl Awareness Day, Gallego Reiterates Support for CATCH Fentanyl Act and Ongoing Efforts to Combat Trafficking
WASHINGTON – Today, on National Fentanyl Awareness Day, Senator Ruben Gallego (D-AZ) is reiterating his commitment to fighting fentanyl trafficking and keeping Arizona communities safe. He supported the Contraband Awareness Technology Catches Harmful (CATCH) Fentanyl Act, which would strengthen the inspection of vehicles and cargo at the southern border by requiring U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) to test new detection technologies at land ports of entry (POEs). “We need every available tool to stop fentanyl from entering our communities, and that starts with improving border inspections and investing in smart, effective detection technology,” said Senator Gallego. Gallego Demands Social Security Head Keep Field Offices Open
WASHINGTON – Senator Ruben Gallego (D-AZ) joined his colleagues in Congress to demand that the Social Security Administration (SSA) keep its field offices open. This comes after reports that Elon Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) might take steps to close offices across the country. “[B]eneficiaries need the opportunity to seek assistance from SSA in person…Closing any of these field offices will make it harder for individuals to access their benefits,” wrote the lawmakers. Wait-times for Arizonans to speak with SSA representatives have already increased due to DOGE’s cuts: Today in Arizona, volunteers will be dropping off the lawmakers’ letter at the Mesa SSA office.
