PHOENIX—Sen. Ruben Gallego (D., Ariz.) says his party, if it wants to win back voters, shouldn’t be afraid to embrace wealth.

“Let’s help people become richer,“ Gallego says, adding that Democrats can sometimes “feel it’s wrong to help people be more prosperous.”

Gallego is one of the few Democrats who were able to carry a state that President Trump won in November. In an interview with The Wall Street Journal’s Eliza Collins, Gallego says he won because he talked to voters about their economic concerns and acknowledged fears regarding border security and public safety.

As Democrats look to start winning again, Gallego offers his prescription to broaden their coalition. Watch the interview in the video above.
