ARIZONA – Last week, Senator Ruben Gallego (D-AZ) made his first visit to Northern Arizona since being elected to the U.S. Senate, where he heard directly from Arizonans about the impacts of the potential cuts to Medicaid, Trump’s trade war, and ongoing threats to veterans’ programs.

Senator Gallego kicked off his visit on Thursday with a town hall on the Yavapai Apache Nation to hear directly from Arizonans about the real-life consequences of Republican-led efforts to cut Medicaid and strip health care from families across Northern Arizona. This was the Senator’s third Save Medicaid town hall in the state.

Later that day, Senator Gallego visited a local coffee shop in Flagstaff to meet with small business owners facing higher costs due to President Trump’s chaotic trade war and discuss his efforts to push back.

“The manufacturing that can come back to United States has to be done in a thoughtful manner through real policy,” said Senator Gallego.

On Friday, Senator Gallego hosted a veterans town hall in Flagstaff, where he spoke directly with local veterans about the impacts of the Trump administration’s mass layoffs of VA employees that threaten essential services for veterans. Senator Gallego has continuously pushed back against cuts to the VA, including by placing a blanket hold on nominees to the department until it reverses course.

“It’s going to be harder to go to a doctor. It’s going to be harder to find a specialist. You’re going to have increased wait times. Wait times mean people’s health is going to deteriorate,” Senator Gallego said on the impacts Arizona veterans will face due to cuts to the VA.
