ARIZONA – Last week, Senator Ruben Gallego (D-AZ) traveled across Phoenix and Tucson to discuss Arizona’s affordable housing crisis, speak with students and Tribal leaders, and deliver a keynote address at the Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Western Regional Convention.
In Phoenix on Wednesday, Gallego convened his inaugural Housing Advisory Board; hosted an affordable housing town hall; celebrated the opening of Vista Village Community Center, an affordable housing development for veterans, seniors, and survivors of domestic violence; and visited a UMOM New Day Center, Arizona’s largest provider of shelter and supportive services for people experiencing homelessness.

Yo pasé unas leyes ojalá que el presidente puede dar la firma donde va a ser más fácil para las personas que pueden comprar apartamentos, empezar apartamentos.”
Reportera: “En enero, el Senador Gallego presentó su plan de cuatro pilares para reducir los costos de la vivienda, que incluyen construir más viviendas, reducir regulaciones para construir más rápido, bajar costos de renta y hacer viviendas más resilientes ante el clima.”
Gallego: “También quiero que la comunidad latina tiene una oportunidad al sueño americano, no nada más para a sobrevivir, pero para vivir.”
Later in the day, Gallego also spoke at the 2026 Tribal Self-Governance Conference in Chandler and took questions from students at Grand Canyon University on the affordability crisis facing Gen Z.

On Friday, Senator Gallego visited the Davis-Monthan Air Force Base in Tucson to meet with servicemembers and discuss ongoing infrastructure investments and mission readiness.
Gallego fought to secure $99 million to build critical facilities at the base in the FY2026 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA).

Also on Friday, Senator Gallego delivered the keynote address at the Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity’s 77th Western Regional Convention in Tucson. After his speech, the Senator also participated in a fireside chat with the fraternity’s General President Lucien J. Metellus Jr.
