WASHINGTON – Senator Ruben Gallego (D-AZ) released the following statement ahead of the Senate vote to block arms sales to Israel:
“Donald Trump still hasn’t given the American people a clear reason for starting a war with Iran. I’ve been outspoken about how this war will raise prices for working families and put American lives at risk. Now he’s asking for more military support to drag us even deeper into it.
“I won’t vote to send half a billion dollars of hardworking Americans’ taxpayer money to Israel for bulldozers and bombs. I support Israel’s defense, but the weapons they are asking for aren’t defensive in nature and will only further the war. Israel is using these weapons to expand territory in the West Bank and Lebanon, which I am against. As I’ve said, violence by Israeli settlers in the West Bank is unacceptable.
“Families in Arizona are struggling to pay their bills, and that’s where our focus should be. I’m voting to block these sales.”
