Gallego Helps Introduce Bill to Crack Down on Cartel Recruitment on Social Media

WASHINGTON – Today, Senator Ruben Gallego (D-AZ) helped introduce the Combating Cartels on Social Media Act, which cracks down on cartels’ dangerous recruitment of teenagers through social media to conduct illegal smuggling and trafficking. Senators Mark Kelly (D-AZ) and James Lankford (R-OK) and Representatives Juan Ciscomani (R-AZ-6) and Chrissy Houlahan (D-PA-6) introduced the bill.  Cartels have been using social media apps like Snapchat, Instagram, TikTok to recruit Americans—including teens—to smuggle drugs over the U.S.-Mexico border.
